Potential Benefits of SS-31 in the Human Body

1. Improved Mitochondrial Function

  • Enhanced ATP production in high-energy-demand tissues: heart, brain, skeletal muscle.

  • Better exercise tolerance, energy, and endurance.

2. Cardioprotection

  • Improved cardiac function in models of heart failure, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and cardiomyopathy.

  • Possible reversal of age-related diastolic dysfunction.

3. Neuroprotection

  • Protection against cognitive decline, mitochondrial dysfunction in Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and ALS.

  • May improve neuronal survival and brain energy metabolism.

4. Eye Health

  • Human trials have shown benefit in mitochondrial eye diseases, such as:
    Dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
    Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON)

5. Anti-Aging and Longevity Effects

  • In animal models:
    Increased lifespan and healthspan.
Improved muscle mass, strength, and function in aged mice.

  • Potential to slow mitochondrial aging processes in humans.

6. Muscle Performance and Recovery

  • Enhanced skeletal muscle function in aging and mitochondrial myopathies.

  • Reduced muscle fatigue and better recovery after exertion.

7. Metabolic Benefits

  • Improved insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism in animal models.

  • Protection against metabolic syndrome and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
